The threat situation in cyberspace has reached a critical point. According to recent surveys, a cyberattack took place every 39 seconds in 2023 - that equates to over 2,200 attacks per day[6]. This alarming development shows a significant acceleration compared to the previous year, when the average frequency was 44 seconds.
Current threat situation
The Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit, BSI) classifies the threat situation as “tense to critical”[1]. One of the main reasons for this is the increasing networking in business and society, which is leading to a continuous increase in the attack surface. At the same time, experts are observing an increased professionalization of cyber criminals.
